The idea for Veloplumb began with a simple question: “Do we really need a van for every job?”
Most plumbing work is local, and a lot of the tools and materials fit easily into a bike trailer or e-cargo box. So, instead of sitting in traffic, burning fuel, and fighting for parking, we decided to take a smarter, greener route.
Starting with one e-cargo bike — and later adding another operating between Cambridge and the surrounding villages — we discovered that most jobs could be done faster and more efficiently on two wheels. The bikes can reach tight spots, avoid congestion, and help keep our carbon footprint low, all while delivering professional, reliable plumbing, gas and heating services.
Now after operating for 2 years, we’re proving every day that good plumbing doesn’t need a van – just a bit of pedal power and a can-do attitude.
Gas Appliances
Install, service, repair and maintenance of household gas appliances including gas boilers, gas cookers, hobs and fires. Open fluid / room sealed appliances. Landlord gas safety certificates.
Hot Water & Heating Systems
Hot water and heating system checks and upgrades including radiator and cylinder installations. Unvented hot water cylinder install, service, repair and maintenance.
General Plumbing Services
Providing a range of general plumbing services including tap replacements, toilet repairs, sanitaryware installation and leak repairs.

What types of work can you do from the bike?
On the ecargo bike we offer pretty much all the services we would do from a van: Gas appliance service/repair and install, general plumbing, heating and water system work
The bike fits a lot of kit and can carry up to 100kg. Being super organised helps! And getting some bigger items such as boilers and sanitary-ware delivered to site.
To keep our service lean and eco-friendly, we sometimes ask customers to arrange disposal of any waste materials. This helps us stay efficient and reduce our environmental footprint.
Do you always use the bikes?
While we’re proud to run a plumbing business primarily powered by e-cargo bikes — reducing emissions, cutting congestion, and keeping things local. For larger jobs, severe weather, or work outside our usual area, we occasionally use a van to stay reliable and responsive. But at our core, we’re committed to low-impact, community-focused plumbing.
What areas do you cover?
At the moment we’re covering Cambridge and the surrounding villages. The concept works best in an urban environment, so we plan to expand to other towns around the country.
What sort of bike is it?
We use 2 Urban Arrow E cargo bikes with specially adapted cargo area to fit all of our kit.
